Francis obtained his bachelor’s degree from University of California Los Angeles, where he studied biochemistry, and his Ph.D. from University of California San Diego, also in biochemistry. He joined Amgen in 2006 in the Analytical Sciences department, where he focused on analytical method development, biophysical characterization, and studying the biological relevance of quality attributes for various large molecule modalities. Now he works in Drug Product Technologies where he leads a team engaged in formulation development and drug product process development for multiple pipeline programs. In addition to project support, Francis conducts research studying the impact of product attributes on the bioavailability of subcutaneous injections. René received his Ph.D. in molecular biology from USC in the lab of Norm Arnheim. After a postdoc at Cedars- Sinai, he started a Los Angeles area biotech career spanning 20 years where he worked at Agensys (UCLA spinoff), Xencor & Osmetech (CalTech spinoffs), and Amgen. René’s career has focused on developing biotherapeutics. Initially, he discovered protein targets for oncology antibody therapeutics; and, he later shifted to recombinant protein production in mammalian expression systems. At Amgen, René leads the Mammalian Expression group which produces and optimizes large molecule therapeutics for the treatment of diseases. Drs. Kinderman and Hubert will provide advice on career development with added insight on Amgen’s recruitment process.
