The Herbst-Kralovetz Lab is focused on the study of host-microbe interactions in the cervicovaginal microenvironment.  Recent findings from the lab involving the complex interplay between local microbiota, HPV, metabolites and immune surveillance that may contribute to progression of cervical neoplasm will be presented. Integration of multi-omics analyses using three “omics” data sets (microbiome, metabolome, immunoproteome) from the local cervicovaginal microenvironment in women across cervical carcinogenesis will also be discussed.  Together these results suggest that individual and multi-omics approaches will be necessary for translating microbiome data into new knowledge about cervical cancer.
