About Us

Translational Genomics @ USC

Department Overview

The Department of Translational Genomics and Institute of Translational Genomics at Keck Medicine of USC is focused on translating the molecular study of genes into individual treatment plans. USC allows future Translational Genomics faculty to bring translational components directly into the clinical enterprise.

Under the leadership of John Carpten, PhD, director of the Institute of Translational Genomics and chair of the Department of Translational Genomics, collaborative effort intends to redefine and further precision medicine. Carpten is an award-winning genomic scientist who is renowned for his key discoveries and contributions in the fields of cancer genetics and genomics.  USC enables Translational Genomics faculty to advance translational biotechnology directly into the clinical enterprise. Not only is the department situated in a distinguished medical school, but it also physically operates within the confines of a hospital. Our department will have access to patients who are coming right through the Keck Medicine of USC clinical system. Our ultimate goal is to bring to bear novel technologies and molecular insights to help improve outcomes for our patients.

Mission Statement

Mission Statement

“We are deeply committed to excellence in translational genomics research, bringing to bear vast experience and expertise in molecular genetics, genome science, biomedical informatics, translational science, and molecular medicine. Our ultimate goal is to serve the Keck community by bridging basic and clinical research through discovery and validation of novel diagnostics and therapeutics for earlier diagnosis and smarter treatments”
